This module covers all of the requirements for Unit 1 & 2 of the National Occupational Standards and is an essential pre-requisite for anyone wishing to work as a professional Energy Assessor or Green Deal Advisor.

Immediately you start your training you will be assigned a 'personal assessor', who will mentor you through the process of building your portfolio of evidence for your chosen qualification route.

The second part of your training programme will be delivered in one of our 'state of the art' Training Centres, where you will receive five days of classroom based training delivered by a team of highly skilled and knowledgeable professional industry practitioners.

This part of your training will cover all of the practical skills required to carry out the work of an Energy Assessor, and or, Green Deal Advisor.

Qualified DEAs - Start your training immediately= with our fully supported distance Learning module in 'The background to Green Deal and the ECO and the operating requirements of qualified Green Deal Advisors’.

The second part of your training programme will be delivered in one of our 'state of the art' Training Centres, where you will receive between two days of classroom based training. This part of your training will cover all of the practical skills required to give Green Deal advice and produce Green Deal Advice Reports using industry standard software.

*Note: Qualification as a Domestic Green Deal Energy Advisor is dependent upon successful submission and assessment (and verification by ABBE) of a portfolio of evidence for units 1-8 inclusive*

*Note: existing qualified DEAs must provide Certificated evidence of qualification for Units 1-4 and must have qualified post April 2102 or include evidence of the DEA RdSAP 9.91 up-skill CPD.

  • Background to the EPBD framework, legislation and the Energy Performance Certificate
  • The essential ‘soft skills’ of professional practice
  • Creating Energy Advisor business operational procedures
  • Health and Safety legislation and considerations for home visits
  • Portfolio building and assessment (units 1&2)

Module 2 – 'in centre training' – 3 days

  • Construction Studies and research for the EPC
  • Understanding heat loss from buildings
  • Measurement and drawing skills for the EPC data collection
  • Systems built properties and listed buildings
  • Visual inspection of properties
  • RdSAP data collection, data input and software
  • Portfolio building and assessment (units 3&4)

Module 3 (part 1) – 'distance learning'

  • Background to Green Deal legislation and the Green Deal framework
  • The structure of the Green Deal Industry including funding, providers, advisors and installers
  • The regulatory control documents of professional Green Deal Advisors
  • Operational procedures for home visits

Module 3 (part 2) – 'in centre training' 2 days

  • Occupancy Assessment inspection techniques and data gathering
  • Recommending improvement measures appropriate to the household
  • Providing behavioural energy saving advice to householders
  • Green Deal Advice Report data requirement, format and software
  • Explaining Green Deal Advice Reports to the consumer and giving advice
  • Portfolio building and assessment (units 5-8)
